About Colloquium

The Colloquium for Aspiring Minority Doctoral Candidates is designed to promote graduate education at West Virginia University to prospective and current minority graduate students. It is an opportunity to familiarize students with academic programs, admission standards, and resources for funding graduate education at WVU.

Participants are responsible for their travel expenses to and from Morgantown, West Virginia. WVU will provide shared, double-occupancy hotel lodging on Sunday, October 4 and Monday, October 5. Meals will also be provided.

Reimbursement for Travel

Ten awards of up to $400 are available to reimburse travel expenses. To apply, please send a letter of intent detailing your expected costs and a resume to Dr. Jonathan Cumming at Jonathan.Cumming@mail.wvu.edu.

Who Participates?

High-achieving minority students who are completing a bachelor’s degree or are currently enrolled in a master’s program and interested in completing a doctoral degree are eligible to apply and are given priority. Other high-achieving minority individuals who are not currently enrolled at a higher education institution, and who wish to explore an academic career, are invited to apply.

Funding Doctoral Studies at WVU

There are numerous avenues for funding your graduate education at WVU. The W.E.B. Du Bois, Swiger, and SREB fellowships provide stipends and tuition waivers for qualified students. The Provost Graduate Fellowships and Enrichment Fellowships provide first-year stipends and tuition waivers to help students transition into graduate programs. The WVU Academic Partnership Program for teaching fellows provides our minority doctoral students the opportunity to serve as visiting faculty for one semester or more at a West Virginia state college campus while completing their doctoral degrees.
