November 12: Birth of Bahu'u'llah, WVU Day of Special Concern

November 12 is Birth of Bahu’u’llah, a WVU Day of Special Concern.

This holy day celebrates the birth of the founder of the Bahá’í Faith, Bahá’u’lláh. The Birth of Bahá’u’lláh is one of nine holy days in the Bahá’í calendar that is celebrated by Bahá’ís and during which work is suspended.

Since days in the Bahá’í calendar start at sunset, the holy day starts on the evening of November 11 and proceeds until sunset on November 12.

The Bahá’í Faith is a monotheistic religion founded by Bahá’u’lláh in nineteenth-century Persia, emphasizing the spiritual unity of all humankind. There are an estimated five to six million Bahá’ís around the world in more than 200 countries and territories.

Those interested in learning more about The Bahá’í Faith can look at the religion’s own Wikipedia online encyclopedia at Bahaikipedia.

Locally, information on The Bahá’í Faith in and around Morgantown and West Virginia can be found at http://bci.org/morgantownbahai/.

According to its website, the central theme of Baha’u’llah’s message is that humanity is one single race and that the day has come for its unification into one global society. “The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens,” wrote Baha’u’llah. Through an irresistible process, the traditional barriers of race, class, creed, and nation are breaking down, which will, in time, give birth to a universal civilization, according to its website.

WVU and the President’s Office of Social Justice recognize the Birth of Bahu’u’llah as a WVU Day of Special Concern.
