MAP on Mountaineer Background

The Mountaineer Academic Program will be entering just its second year, but is one of the fastest growing programs currently under development of the President’s Office for Social Justice and the Office of Disability Services.

The mission of MAP:

The Mountaineer Academic Program is a fee-for-service, academic enhancement program, which provides student-centered supplemental academic support services for students with disabilities. Theses services meet the needs of, provide support for, and promote the retention of undergraduate students with disabilities at West Virginia University.

Vision Statement:

The Mountaineer Academic Program will be the leading academic support program in the state of West Virginia for post-secondary students with disabilities. The Mountaineer Academic Program aspires to retain and graduate knowledgeable individuals who have acquired academic and life skills, allowing participating students to become successful members in his or her local community.

MAP employs a full-time academic coach, graduate assistant, and over twenty academic tutors. These dedicated men and women work to provide the highest level of service to program participants. Click here to learn more about the dedicated MAP staff.

Prospective Tutors:

Mountaineer Academic Program utilizes peer-based tutoring. If you are a current WVU student who has completed 29 hours and has a 3.0 or higher GPA, and is interested in tutoring for the Mountaineer Academic Program, please Click Here to complete a tutor interest form. This form along with a current resume must be submitted to the Mountaineer Academic Program before an applicant can be considered for a position.
