West Virginia University is one of the only universities of our size in the nation to encompass social justice office. The principle of social justice encompasses the legal and moral obligations to promote opportunity, equality, civility, and respect for all people. The President’s Office for Social
Justice is charged with communicating, teaching, and promoting these principles throughout
the extended academic community and society, as well as fulfilling the relevant legal
standards related to civil rights and affirmative action. The President’s Office for Social Justice is the first stop for many: an International student arriving on campus for the first time, a faculty member seeking mediation information and services, or university departments seeking leadership for education, promotion, and awareness on a broad range of relevant issues. We accomplish this is many ways, and invite you to learn more about our many roles on campus and in the community.
The staff members of the President’s Office for Social Justice are here to serve you. Our main offices are located on the garden level (basement) of Stewart Hall on the downtown campus of West Virginia University. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. (although you will often find us here earlier and later than the set times). Please feel free to contact us by dropping in, calling (304) 293-5496, or emailing at socialjustice@mail.wvu.edu.
